- Does your soap have lye in it?
All true soap is made with lye (sodium hydroxide), however, during the saponification process oils, butters and lye get converted to soap and glycerin; therefore, there is absolutely no lye left in the final product.
- Do you use animal ingredients?
It depends on the product. While some of my products contain animal fats, beeswax, honey and goat milk, I also have a wide selection of vegan-friendly options. I also list all the ingredients for my products in their descriptions, but if you have any questions, please contact me for more information.
- Do you do custom orders?
Let’s talk! If you are looking for a product with a certain scent, colour palette, or with/without particular ingredients, I will do my best to work with you. I will require at least 5 weeks notice and a 50% deposit on all custom orders. The deposit becomes non-refundable 24 hours after the order is accepted by me.
- Why does my soap look different?
All products at Inspired Suds are made, cut and packaged by hand and in small batches, so there may be slight variations in appearance from one batch to another, or even within the same batch (especially soap!). Also, since no two bars of soap are exactly the same, I label them based on the smallest bar in that batch at the time of packaging, so you may receive a soap that’s slightly bigger, but not smaller than indicated. Also, please keep in mind that moisture slowly evaporates from soap even after the initial cure, so over time your soap may be slightly lighter than when you received it. If your soap arrives damaged, please take a picture and contact me, so I can resolve the issue with you.
- My soap doesn’t smell!
The scent is one of the more variable components of soapmaking. The strength of the scent depends on several factors, such as the storage of soap, what it was scented with, and the age of the soap. First of all, some scents are stronger than others to start with. If the scent is lighter or more intense than average, I will generally indicate that in the product description. Also, scents tend to somewhat fade over time. Generally, essential oils fade a bit faster than fragrance oils, and usually both fade a bit on the surface of the soap, but once you start using the bar, the scent comes back! Finally, in order to preserve the scent, we recommend that you store your unused soaps in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures and any other strongly scented products.
